MEDECO – Cruising the Mediterranean Sea
International Research Team studies the sea floor in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea
MEDECO stands for Mediterranean Deep-Sea Ecosystems- a scientific cruise beginning in October and ending in November 2007. More than 60 scientists -some of them from the Max Planck Institute for Marine Microbiology- checked in on the French research vessel „ Pourquoi Pas?“. They will use highly sophisticated tools and the Remote Operated Vehicle VICTOR 6000 to take samples and to map the sea floor. One of the big question is what kind of fauna and flora is living down there. Teamwork is required: This study is part of the EU project HERMES.
