Visit to the German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ)

Oct 19, 2023

Forty employees of our institute took the opportunity to visit the Science Campus Braunschweig-Süd, which bundles expertise and infrastructure against infectious diseases, yesterday as part of a work excursion.

The participants learned a lot about research and work at both the Leibniz Institute DSMZ-German Collection of Microorganisms and Cell Cultures (DSMZ) and the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI) in informative guided tours. They gained an insight into the infrastructure and equipment available there as well as into some of the research content. There was also plenty of inspiration and opportunity for exchange, especially in the field of microbiome research.

"At the DSMZ, we got exciting insights into many topics, from the different groups of microorganisms to the ISO-certified collection work and a visit to the culture collection," says one participant. For those interested, there was also a guided tour of Braunschweig in the afternoon. "I got a whole new picture of Braunschweig, both of the beautiful city and of Braunschweig as a science location," says an attendee.

Special thanks go to Jörg Overmann, Michael Pester and Richard Hahnke and for their support from the DSMZ. Also, without the active involvement of the organisers at our institute, this wonderful day would not have been possible. Thank you very much!
