New sign welcomes staff and visitors

Jul 27, 2020

Nice to see: Matt shimmering metal letters now decorate the entrance area of our institute. Above the stairs to the main entrance, the words “Max-Planck-Institut für Marine Mikrobiologie” welcome staff and guests, making our institute more visible. The new design of the outer walls also includes the three large letters MPI at the top of the building, which are attached to the side of Wiener Strasse and can be seen from afar.

Next to the new words you can see the logo of the Max Planck Society (MPG) – the Minerva. The roman goddess of inventions, art and science was already the emblem of the MPG predecessor, the Kaiser Wilhelm Society, and was inherited when the MPG was founded in the post-war period. Recently, our mother company in Munich has revised its corporate design. In this context, the MPG has asked all Max Planck Institutes – more than 80 in total – to place the Minerva logo prominently, visually underlining our affiliation to the MPG. Our own logo will of course remain.
