Maxim Hess stays on for his Bachelor thesis after a summer internship with us
A summer internship turns into a Bachelor thesis for Maxim Hess
We are pleased to announce that Maxim Hess, a Biology student at the University of Bremen, will continue in the Marine Transmissible Cancers Research Group. Maxim first joined us for a research internship during summer 2026 and has now decided to continue working with the group for his Bachelor thesis.
Maxim is studying Biology at the University of Bremen and recently completed an Erasmus exchange at the Université des Antilles in Guadeloupe, France, where he specialized in Marine Biology. For his Bachelor thesis, Maxim will investigate the geographic distribution and relative abundance of cockles along German shores. His project will combine field sampling along the North Sea and Baltic Sea coasts with species-specific PCR assays to distinguish two morphologically similar species. In parallel, he will use cytology to screen cockle populations for hemic neoplasia and other abnormalities in their hemocytes. The Bachelor thesis will be co-supervised by PhD student Nupur Potukuchi and Dr. Alicia L. Bruzos.
We are very happy that a summer internship has developed into a Bachelor thesis and look forward to continuing to work with Maxim!
